HortiMaX team wins prize in 12-inch race
On Saturday 11 September, Ferry van der Meijden, Jelle Hogervorst and Ronald Hulst (three HortiMaX employees) took part in the 12-inch race in the Dutch town of Pijnacker. During the race, competitors cycle about 6 miles on bicycles with wheels no larger than those on a children’s bike. The HortiMaX team competed in the race with a remarkable self-built creation in the shape of an old-fashioned penny-farthing. The front wheel had a diameter of no less than 2 metres and resulted in a bicycle that looked like it had been time-warped straight from the Victorian age. This imaginative entry won Ferry van der Meijden the design prize for the second time in a row. With over five-hundred competitors, the race raised more than €150,000 for the Guusje Nederhorst Foundation and Vonk, two Dutch charities. HortiMaX was one of the main sponsors of the event.
